Composite materials were first used in the marine industry back in the 1970's, when Hexcel supplied glass reinforcements for first sailing performance boats, canoes, dinghies, and honeycomb sandwich panels for hovercrafts.
 
In the past 30 years Hexcel has developed a wider range of composite materials, specifically to meet the requirements of the marine industry. The applications have diversified to include components as varied as decor panels, structural floor panels and honeycomb constructions for Fast Ships, in addition to development of proven America's Cup Class Prepregs and honeycombs for Performance Boats.
