Burlington is located in Skagit County, in the northwest of Washington State, USA, between Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia. The majestic Cascade Mountains stand to the east, overlooking a fertile valley boasting a variety of agricultural crops. Running through the valley is the powerful Skagit River, flowing westwards towards the beautiful San Juan Islands. World famous for its tulip fields, Skagit County is home to many cultural centers and enjoys a booming economy, comprising agriculture, fishing, wood products, tourism, international trade and specialized manufacturing.
Hexcel's Burlington Engineered Core Plant was established in 1990. Today the 86,500 sq ft. facility is split into two buildings, manufacturing aerospace and automotive parts from metallic and non-metallic honeycomb. In recent years there has been new growth and work opportunities for the A380 program and for small business jets.
The plant currently employs about 100 people in a range of roles. Process technicians are the largest single components, but there are also people working in materials, quality, engineering, shipping and maintenance departments.
Customers are offered a broad range of capabilities. In non-metallic processing these include: sawing, chamfering, heat forming, heat soaking, bonding and curing. Within metallic processing they include HOBE sawing, vertical band sawing, chamfering, roll forming, flat and arc expanding, heat soaking and slotting.
