West Valley City is home to Hexcel’s largest carbon fiber and matrix manufacturing plants, located just a few minutes southwest of downtown Salt Lake City. Our site is a leading worldwide supplier of carbon fiber with a wide range of qualified positions in commercial aerospace, space and defense and industrial applications.
- At our fibers plant, PAN (polyacrylonitrile) precursor fiber from the company’s Decatur, Alabama facility undergoes a series of oxidation and carbonization processes to yield a broad portfolio of high performance HexTow® carbon fiber products.
- At our matrix plant, we manufacture resins and pre-impregnated reinforcement (prepregs). Prepregs can be made from carbon fiber, fiberglass or aramid reinforcement materials. They are produced in unidirectional tape, slit tape and fabric forms using solvent coating and hot melt processes. Hexcel prepregs are used in commercial aerospace, space & defense and recreation applications where light weight and strength are critical.
