Hexcel Fibers SL is located in Illescas, Spain, mid-way between the cities of Madrid and Toledo in the Castilla-La Mancha region.  The famous Spanish novel Don Quixote is mostly situated in this region and La Mancha remains a symbol of Spanish culture with its fields of sunflowers, olive groves and old windmills.  In recent years Illescas and the surrounding areas have become important technology and manufacturing centers in Spain, with Airbus located close by.

Illescas is the location for Hexcel’s first carbon fiber manufacturing plant in Europe. The plant was opened in 2008 and has a total surface area of approximately 485 000 sq. ft. (45 000 m²).

Hexcel's Illescas plant manufactures high performance carbon fiber using polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor made by Hexcel in Decatur, Alabama.  Carbon fiber is the vital ingredient in the highest performing composite materials. The high strength created by the production process means that HexTow® carbon fibers offer a superior alternative to metal for a broad range of new structural parts.

A number of industries already benefit from advanced carbon fiber composites including space, defense, commercial aircraft, sports goods, motorsports and industrial applications.
